Take 213 South toward the Royal Farms (past Kingstown). Turn left on 544 and continue over 301 (make a right on 301 and an immediate left to cut back over to 544). Take 544 to its end at 313, the driveway is literally straight across from 544. Drive up to the shed to park.

A Brief History of Homestead Farm
Homestead Farm began in the fall of 2001 when Luke and Alison Howard purchased 77 acres of land in Millington, MD. The land was at the time used to farm soybeans, but after the required three-year conversion process, the land became a USDA certified organic Community Share Agriculture farm. They now produce organic vegetables and grains, as well as free-range organic chickens and eggs. Homestead Farm's mission is to help develop a just and sustainable food system in the region by fostering understanding, communication and partnership among diverse groups concerned with farming, hunger, and other issues related to food.
Sites of Interest on the Farm
- The land is planted in grain and seasonal vegetables, backed by trees on two sides. There are chickens, two cats, an antique tractor, and occasional other farm animals depending on the season.
- The two chicken houses are rotated around the land to prevent the chickens from overgrazing any particular section of pasture.
- There are two high tunnels to extend the growing season.
- A perennial stream that feeds Unicorn Lake.
- Open for long-term research or thesis projects, especially as a case study for business management or environmental studies majors, upon special arrangement.

Special arrangements for long-term research or thesis projects available. Also opportunities for student part-time employment, to experience the operation of a working farm.
Availability
Preferably November through March, unless staff time is not required or students are interested in assisting with the growing season (see Possibilities for Classes).
Art
- Scenic views of open farmland, vegetables, and chickens, including interesting antique farm machinery.
Business Management
- Would be glad to work with a business class to provide a case study for a working organic farm.
Science/Environmental Studies
- Opportunity to intern on a USDA certified organic farm, learn some of the mechanics of farm work, and experience farming firsthand. During the growing season only (March through November).
- A chance to view the workings of a certified organic farm, including effects on run-off water quality, soil quality, and food quality.
